2016 Destieux

Blackish crimson, and well-melded, sweet, rather simple, awkward fruit. A little hint of greenness. Scrawny end. (JR)

A beautiful nose of macerated cherries, blackberries, chocolate, and cedary spice emerges from the 2016 Château Destieux, and it's deep, rich, and layered on the palate. With a real sense of minerality, medium to full body, good acidity, and plenty of ripe tannins, it has an approachable feel yet will be even better with short-term cellaring. Tasted twice.

The 2016 Destieux has a compact bouquet of dense blackberry, bilberry and undergrowth aromas, gentle at first, but gaining in intensity with aeration. The palate is well balanced with fine, supple tannin and well-judged acidity. This feels fresh but delivers ample fruit concentration. Quite mineral-driven toward the satisfying, saline finish. An excellent wine from Destieux.
