Plenty in common with the 2016 vintage in terms of its complexity, concentration, interplay of iris and peony floral notes, and rippling, sculpted black fruits. Salted caramel on the finish, excellent quality, this is barely beyond primeur stage but already has brushed tannins and a crayon slate feel on the finish. 60% new oak, Michel Rolland consultant. 90% 1st wine, reflecting the exceptional quality of the fruit. 45hl/ha yield.

The 2019 Clos Dubreuil has a modern, oaky edge, yet it still brings beautiful richness in its darker cherry and cassis fruits as well as spice box, dried herbs, and leather nuances. Nicely textured and medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has chewy tannins, plenty of mid-palate flesh, and a great finish. This mouth-filling, textured, character-filled 2019 needs 2-4 years in the cellar but will have two decades of overall longevity.

The 2019 Clos Dubreuil comes from a site just outside the village with shallow soils and a tendency to ripen early. Offering up aromas of rich, smoky berry fruit, dark chocolate, spices and mocha, it's full-bodied, ripe and powerful, with a fleshy, broad-shouldered, rather extracted profile and a long, penetrating finish. To my taste, it's a wine where less might be more; but it's a fine effort in the genre.
