The 2019 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru has a nuanced and precise bouquet with more mineralité than its peers in this flight, blossoming in the glass. The palate is well-balanced, maybe a little oaky at the moment. Still, so much concentrated fruit is packed in underneath, allied with real complexity and an irresistible spiciness toward the finish. This is an outstanding Chablis that should give many years of pleasure. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru has a gorgeous, intense bouquet of orange blossom, lemon verbena and light flinty scents, all beautifully defined. The palate is well balanced: quite extravagant for a Vaillon, yet tensile and edgy. It fans out wonderfully on the finish. Excellent.
The 2019 Chablis Vaillon 1er Cru is matured 30% in barrel (5% new) and 70% in tank. Fresh and animated on the nose, it has a brightness and sense of joie-de-vivre that is endearing, even at this early stage. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, taut and focused, leading into a harmonious, tensile finish. I actually think this is as good as the Cuvée Guy Moreau – just different rather than better.
