The 2013 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru might very well turn out to be Laurent Ponsot's best offering this vintage. It has a very well-defined, almost crystalline bouquet with wonderful mineralité percolating through the shimmering red berry fruit. The palate possesses brilliant delineation and poise. This is not a deep or titanic Clos de Bèze, but it is interwoven with a killer line of acidity and demonstrates more complexity and finesse than the Chambertin on the finish. This is just...beautiful.

Ponsot always shows this after their Chambertin. Racked. Slightly less intense crimson than the Chambertin. A bit of quite noticeable spice on the nose. Masses of fruit. Really fine and subtle already. Definitely the star of the Ponsot stable in 2013. Fantastic balance already – utterly convincing. Simply gorgeous. Great refinement and persistence. (JR)
About the producer
Domaine Ponsot is one of the most well-known estates in the Côte de Nuits, famed for owning three of the original four hectares of the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. The legendary domaine also produces another nine Grand Cru cuvées.
