The 2021 Syrah Collezione Privata is a delicate, nuanced wine. After all these years, the Syrah has become quite Tuscan in personality. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice and rose petal open first. There's lovely freshness and purity to the fruit, but also less Syrah character than in many previous editions. Even so, the 2021 is an elegant, captivating wine. I imagine it will age with grace.

The 2021 Syrah is an attractive, mid-weight wine. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and menthol all meld together in the glass. Just as last year, I see a very pretty, articulate wine that is still quite fruity, without a ton of varietal character just yet. Even so, there's terrific energy and drive here. The 20% stems are not especially evident.
About the producer
Situated north of Castellina, on the western side of Chianti Classico, Isole e Olena was created by the De Marchi family in the 1950s and has since become one of the region’s leading names. It is renowned for its top bottling Cepparello, a pure Sangiovese, as well as its brilliant Chardonnay.
