Tasting notes
Another surprisingly Nebbiolo-like bottling, the 2016 Zinfandel Sadie Upton is lovely, bursting from the glass with aromas of dried herbs, cocoa powder and balsamic cherry. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and taut, with racy acids (the pH is 3.35) and firm but fine-grained tannins, concluding with a long finish. This 2.2-acre, dry-farmed vineyard was planted in 1922 by a young woman while her husband was working on the railroad.

Another compelling wine in the Turley range, the 2016 Zinfandel Sadie Upton Vineyard is wonderfully complete and full of promise. Leather, smoke, tobacco, herbs and cedar add aromatic nuance to this big, strapping Zinfandel. Big tannins and equally rich, imposing fruit are artfully balanced in this deep, flavorful Zinfandel. There is so much character and personality here.
