Tasting notes
(14.7% alcohol): Bright medium ruby. Pungent aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice pastille and minerals are lifted by herbal and violet nuances. Juicy, savory and tight, offering high-pitched flavors of black fruits, spicy herbs and bitter chocolate oak. No shortage of flavor intensity or energy but this extremely primary wine still needs time to expand in bottle. Seems to rely more on its acidity than on its tannic edge for structure. This wine may yet merit a higher score.

(a blend of Clone 7, Clone 4 and Clone 337, the last of which which general manager Jason Alexander says gives the "cabernet franc high notes"): Medium red-ruby. Sexy aromas of redcurrant and violet, with an ephemeral minerality that carries through onto the palate. Juicy and spicy in the mouth, with lively acidity framing the dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors. Not a particularly fleshy style but quite penetrating.
The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits abundant aromas of crushed rock, charcoal, creme de cassis and subtle smoke in a ripe, full-bodied, exuberant style with terrific intensity, texture and concentration. There is not a hard edge to be found in this pure, dramatic Cabernet. It should drink well for 15 or more years. Meteor’s cool climate, rocky vineyard in the Coombsville area of the southern Napa Valley is of volcanic origin. Tel. (707) 258-2900; Fax (707) 258-0200
