Tasting notes
More classic and Meursault-like in its aromatics, the 2023 Chardonnay Cuvée Susan reveals orchard fruits, spicy wood, brioche, flower oil, and candied lemon. Based on 100% Chardonnay from Carneros and aged 16 months in 50% new French oak, it's beautifully textured and medium to full-bodied, with a deep, layered mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish. I love it today, yet it should have a solid decade of overall longevity. Drink 2025-2035.

The 2023 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard Cuvée Susan is gorgeous. White orchard fruit, sweet floral overtones, mint, white pepper and slate run through this super-expressive Chardonnay. The blend is now mostly Calera Clone and some Wente, which results in a decidedly savory, sculpted Chardonnay.
Harvested at 21 Brix (normally at 23 but could not get to 23 in this vintage). Whole-cluster pressed straight to barrel with heavy lees. Fermentation with ambient yeasts in French oak, 65% new. Matured 10 months in barrel before being transferred to stainless-steel tank for a month. Unfined. Unfiltered. Medium gold. Very oak-forward with ripe golden fruit and a touch of sulphury reduction. Fresher acidity than 2022 with more overt oak presence on the palate. Dense with a lingering caramel finish. (SCJ)
An ethereal wine that\'s wonderfully light in texture and ultra rich in flavor at the same time. A great vintage from a great single vineyard. Silky, layered, detailed and ripe but balanced, with great acidity and a deceptively full body. Made from Wente and Calera clone grapes and all barrel fermented in 50% new French barrels. Not obviously oaky, the wine spends several months on the lees. Drink or hold.
