Effectively the second wine of Schäfer-Fröhlich’s Felseneck Grosses Gewächs, this leads with penetratingly pungent and prickly scents of white currant and lime peel allied to high-toned intimations of framboise distillate. A firm, brightly citric, infectiously juicy palate is tinged with nippy cress as well as maritime alkalinity and salinity, and underlain by wet stone, leading to a mouthwatering, impressively persistent finish, albeit one that in its stoniness and severity has an undeniably austere side. This will certainly merit following for a few years.

What precision and finesse! The 2015 Bockenauer Riesling Trocken Schiefergestein is entirely sourced from the Felseneck and comes from vines that are "just" 30 to 40 years old. It opens with a very pure, fresh, spicy and flinty bouquet of green apples with some wet and dirty earthy flavors. On the palate, this is a gorgeous wine: very clear, complex and dense, with impressive intensity, richness and harmony. Very promising and a real bargain!

100% from Felseneck, 100% spontaneous fermentation and 60% steep site. The little brother of the Grosses Gewächs and picked earlier. Vineyards a little bit younger. They have 8-9 ha of this site. He likes to pick when the leaves turn yellow. So pungent. Great texture. Fine tannins. VGV (JR)
