(all used barriques ): Bright, youthful purple. Smoky, spice-accented scents of blueberry and dried cherry display a vibrant character and pick up a floral accent with aeration. Juicy black and blue fruit flavors are lifted and sharpened by a zesty mineral nuance and a note of cracked pepper. Closes spicy and tight, with echoing minerality and silky, slow-building tannins.

Completely destemmed and aged 14 months in barrel, the 2012 Saint Joseph has an open, evolved and slightly volatile style in its vanilla bean, raspberry and cherry-tart aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, soft and supple, it will need consuming over the coming couple of years.
