Score 94/100 · Drink 2018-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2017

An addition to the range, 2014 Pinot Noir Estate Raschen Ridge, is a wine of exquisite finesse. Silky, gracious and lifted, the 2014 has a Chambolle-like sweetness and striking aromatic presence. Fine tannins give the wine its shape and overall feel, while hints of orange peel, sweet red cherry and herbs add to the wine's understated personality. The Raschen Ridge is named after America painter Henry Raschen, who once lived on the property, and emerges from a ridge that sits between the eastern and western sides of the estate. Perhaps because of that location, the wine captures an extraordinary amount of the nuance that has made Hirsch such a compelling site for the many winemakers who have coveted this fruit over the years.
