The deep plum-colored 1999 Merlot St. Jean Estate Vineyard offers up mocha, plum, and black cherry flavors, excellent density, good chewiness, and austere tannin as well as hardness in the finish. It should drink well for 10-12 years. Tel. (707) 833-4134; Fax (707) 833-4200

Saturated medium ruby. Oaky aromas of currant, blackberry and tobacco leaf. Dense, ripe cherry, berry and tar flavors; offers good texture and ripeness but modest nuance. Finishes with chewy, ripe tannins and a leafy note.
