Tasting notes
The remarkable 1999 Zinfandel Turley Estate (225 cases, 15.4% alcohol) was made from 4-year old vines (with tight 3 x 6 spacing) planted adjacent to the well-known Aida Vineyard. Drinking this wine is akin to drinking blackberry and strawberry liqueur mixed with smoke, spice, pepper, and truffles. A touch of volatile acidity adds to the aromatic fireworks. Full-bodied, unctuously-textured, and exceptionally rich, with enough glycerin and thickness to please the most demanding hedonists, this is Zinfandel on steroids. Drink it over the next decade. Tel. Complex, aromatic nose of red and black berries, woodsmoke and flinty minerality. Suave, supple, rich and sweet; not especially nuanced but easygoing and accessible. This will offer early pleasure.
