Tasting notes
Dark waxy fruits and smoky oak can be found in the aromatic profile of the 2001 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard. Produced from a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Petit Verdot, it is a medium-bodied wine with an impressively soft, satiny personality filled with black fruits. Its finish reveals some bitterness and a hint of alcoholic warmth. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. Tel. (206) 381-9507 www.cadencewinery.com

(a blend of 40% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot, 22% cabernet franc and 15% petit verdot) Good medium-deep red. Blue fruits, licorice, minerals and shoe polish on the brooding nose. Juicy, spicy and lively in the mouth, with dense, sappy flavors of dark berries and spices. Offers an uncanny combination of energy and mid-palate creamy sweetness. Finishes very long and strong. An excellent example of this vineyard, which is one of a handful in Washington State that is clearly capable of producing complete, balanced wines on its own.
