Tasting notes
Pretty floral on the nose, with lots of violet and rose, along with black cherry, tea and subtle oak notes of smoke and cinnamon. Great complexity and poise. Fresh, with grainy tannins that will help it continue ageing for several years, though it’s also approachable now. (JRL)

The 2022 Coolart Road Pinot Noir leads with dried mint and alpine herbs, which follows onto a lean, slightly dusty palate. The notes of coffee grounds, freshly turned earth and waxy notes here overtake the notion of fresh fruit. There are notes of dried goji berries, chinotto and tapenade to close. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
100% Coolart Road fruit, 68% MV6 clone, 32% Abel clone. Hand-picked 2 to 11 March 2022. individual parcels from F block (64%) and D (36%) cold soaked for five days before spontaneous fermentation for 14 days on skins (including a small percentage of whole bunch) in a combination of concrete and stainless-steel fermenters with gentle cap management and press. Eight months in a combination of new (26%, 600-litre) and old oak barrels in small and large format. TA 6 g/l, pH 3.5. Richer and deeper than the McCutcheon and Wallis 2022 Pinots. Spicy plumcot, ripe damson, violet. The fruit comes forward, showing much more concentration, more graphite, a little fiercer, more confident. More calligraphy. More mouth-watering, more shimmering concentration. A show of restrained magnificence. (TC)
