Tasting notes
The 2013 La Croce, co-fermented Syrah/Sangiovese, is another massively concentrated, jammy wine dominated by oak and huge, searing tannins that completely overpower the fruit.

A blend of equal parts Syrah and Sangiovese, the 2013 La Croce (Syrah / Sangiovese) is a bigger, richer and more structured wine than the Angeli. It has serious notes of black raspberries, cassis, pepper, smoked herbs and tobacco leaf to go with a savory, structured, nicely concentrated feel on the palate. It has the fruit to drink nicely today, but it hardly budged over the two days I had the bottle open, and will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring once released. It should have 10-15 years of overall longevity.
Made from a high density planting of 50% Sangiovese co-fermented with 50% Syrah. Delicious. Nice concentration with depth, complexity, and harmony here. 2013 offers a good balance of structure, density, and generosity with focus for this wine. Notes of dusty red and purple fruit with integrated anise and just a hint of pepper, a lifting violet aromatic and pleasing earthiness throughout. Supple tannins and mouth-watering acidity with nice persistence. This wine will further evolve in bottle though is drinkable now. (ECB)
