Tasting notes
Vivid ruby-red. Spicy red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by candied lavender, coconut and smoky minerals. Juicy raspberry and cherry-vanilla flavors show good clarity and a smoky mineral undertone that gains power with air. Offers an appealing blend of power and vivacity, finishing with gentle grip, a hint of sweet oak spices and subtle tannins.

I found the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape surprisingly soft and one-dimensional. Sporting a transparent ruby color as well as light berry fruit, leather, toasted spice and underbrush, it’s medium-bodied and nicely balanced/focused, but falls off on the finish. Hopefully I caught this on an off day, but as it is, I’d lean toward drinking bottles over the coming 5-7 years.
Bright ruby. Vibrant cherry and blackberry scents, complemented by a subtle floral accent. Sweet red fruit flavors show impressive vibrancy and clarity, with a licorice note adding depth. Finishes clean and spicy, with a tangy redcurrant quality and smooth, harmonious tannins.
