Score 92/100 · Drink 2002-2012, Robert Parker, Aug 2002

The 600-case cuvee of 2000 Zinfandel Guiseppe and Luisa admirably conceals its 17.2% alcohol (unless someone is foolish enough to drink the entire bottle). Its knock-out aromas of plum liqueur, prunes, leather, chocolate, espresso beans, Asian spices, underbrush, and pepper are followed by a dense, unctuously-textured, full-bodied, large-scaled, mouth-staining Zinfandel to drink over the next 5-10 years. (17.2% alcohol) Dark, slightly dull red. Roasted red berries, dried fruits, licorice, tar, eucalyptus and exotic spices on the nose. Superripe and concentrated, with a port-like quality, but quite uncompromisingly dry. Could use a bit more brightness. Finishes with big, dusty tannins.

About the producer

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
