Score 87/100 · Drink 2006, Robert Parker, Aug 1999

The 1996 Palazzo della Torre, a single-vineyard Valpolicella, should be approached as if it were a full-flavored and bodied Valpolicella. The wine displays plenty of cherry and tar flavors with notes of chocolate and grilled herbs in the background. A dark ruby-colored wine, with a good texture, medium to full body, and excellent purity and length, this robust Valpolicella should drink well for 5-6 years. Saturated ruby-red. Superripe nose shows a raisiny quality. Big, thick and rich but comes across as quite dry thanks to harmonious acids (despite possessing a few grams of residual sugar). Exotic dark berry flavors. Finishes with strong, dusty tannins; the fruit is nicely framed by oak.
