Tasting notes
Poggio Antico's superb 1995 Brunello di Montalcino is forward and soft, with a deep ruby/plum/garnet color, and a sweet bouquet of licorice, smoke, and jammy cherry fruit. Rich and full-bodied, with excellent concentration, but amazing accessibility and precociousness, it can be drunk over the next decade. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900

Full, fresh garnet. Sweet, expansive nose of plum and licorice shows the customary aromatic finesse of the house. Supple, velvety, and elegant, with a sweet plummy flavor. Offers consistent texture from entry through to the firmly tannic, long finish. I have not yet tasted the 1995 Riserva of Paola Gloder, but this wine suggests that this is the best vintage for Poggio Antico since 1985.
