La Morra. Deep ruby with bright orange tinges. Voluptuous nose of red-cherry and raspberry fruit with a hint of gingerbread. The oak is a little bit dominant on the palate, while the fruit is ripe and quite voluminous. (WS)

The 2019 Barolo Giachini is a sinewy, taut Barolo that is going to need time to relax a bit. Giachini is usually a bit more sensual and forthcoming, but not in 2019. Time in the glass brings out dark cherry, spice, herbs, mint and a touch of new oak. There's good depth and plenty of character, but readers will have to be patient.
