(72% zinfandel, 20% syrah and 8% mourvedre): Opaque ruby. Explosive aromas of blackberry, boysenberry and smoky Indian spices. Sappy, rich and seamless, with offering powerful dark fruit flavors and a touch of dark chocolate. Impressively sweet and seamless in texture, with strong finishing spiciness and smooth, fully absorbed tannins. Comes off quite elegant, which is a common theme in the best 2011s from Paso Robles.

Showing additional richness, the 2011 Problem Child (72% Zinfandel, 20% Syrah and 8% Mourvedre) possesses a sweet core of fruit as well as a medium to full-bodied, voluptuously textured profile. Blackberry, currants, exotic flowers and violets all show on the nose, and it continually changes in the glass and is beautifully complex. Aged in 20% new wood, the fruit is front and center here. Drink 2014-2021. This was a fantastic lineup of wines by proprietor Matt Trevisan and all of the current releases have brilliant purity of fruit and a lively, energetic feel without ever coming across as lean. Blends are the rule here and these are character-filled efforts that could come from nowhere else. Highly recommended. Tel (805) 227-0797; www.linnecalodo.com

Dark cherries, plums, mocha, menthol and spices take on gorgeous shades of expression in the 2011 Problem Child. A sensual, voluptuous wine, the 2011 is firing on all cylinders today. A hint of sweet tobacco adds nuance on the polished finish. In 2011 Problem Child is approximately 73% Zinfandel, 20% Syrah and 8% Mourvedre.
