Tasting notes
The 2009 Romanee St. Vivant bursts from the glass with an exciting melange of racy fruit. It is fabulously rich and powerful, with sweet floral notes that wrap around the well-delineated finish. There is fabulous intensity from start to finish. This is a towering, statuesque Burgundy that will require time, but it is long on pedigree and sheer class. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. (finished its malolactic fermentation just ten days prior to my visit) Good deep red. Ineffable scents of raspberry, cocoa powder, ginger, cappuccino, pepper and tobacco, plus a whiff of passion fruit. Less expressive in the mouth today than on the nose but already displays terrific fruit intensity. Quite folded in on itself just after the end of the malo, but a great wine in the making.
