Tasting notes
(14.5% alcohol; 100% cabernet sauvignon, aged for 22 months in 69% new French oak): Saturated medium ruby. Aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice, mocha and dark chocolate. Pliant and fine-grained, with lovely purity to the black fruit and dark chocolate flavors accented by licorice and pepper. Finishes with ripe, building, slightly drying tannins that coat the palate. I remember some past vintages of this bottling in which there was not enough fruit to handle the oak. But this one offers a felicitous balance.

A classy, elegant effort that has upside potential, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Ethos is a beautifully done 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that comes mostly from the Cold Creek Vineyard. Aged 22 months in 69% new French oak, it’s a richly textured, medium to full-bodied 2010 that has classy black raspberry, creme de cassis, tobacco, spice and hints of chocolate as well as an elegant, pure feel on the palate. Give it another year or two and enjoy through 2022. Drink now-2022. Tel. (425) 415-3300; www.ste-michelle.com
