Score 96/100 · Drink 2028-2038, Eric Guido, Vinous, Jun 2024

The 2021 Chloe tempts the imagination with a whiff of spiced blood orange and licorice before opening further with notes of rum-soaked cherry and baking spice. This seduces with its velvety textures, coming across as dense yet still quite spry, as mineral-drenched red berry fruits penetrate deeply. The 2021 mixes tannic heft with primary concentration, creating an epically structured feel that promises years of development. Hints of dark chocolate and a balsamic tinge slowly fade.

The 2021 Cuvée Chloe is a blend of co-fermented Syrah (64%), Grenache (23%), Grenache Blanc (8%) and Graciano (5%). It has pure aromas of cassis, milk chocolate, lilac, thyme, tobacco and graphite with undertones of sage and juniper. The full-bodied palate is effortlessly balanced, its concentrated fruit framed by powdery tannins and focused acidity, and it has a long, layered finish. It's youthfully latent and will take several years in bottle to unfurl completely.

Lots of blackberries, cassis, dark plums, cedar and stones. Full-bodied with plush tannins. Serious and ample with a mineral edge at the center with some violets and blue fruit character towards the laser-focused long finish.

One of the gems in the lineup in 2021 is the borderline perfect 2021 Chloe, a blend of 64% Syrah, 23% Grenache, 8% Grenache Blanc, and 5% Graciano. Sporting a deep purple hue as well as incredible aromatics of black and blue fruits, ground pepper, charred meat, and graphite, it has a remarkable sense of minerality, is full-bodied and flawlessly balanced, and has a blockbuster of a finish. It shows the tighter, more inward style of the vintage and warrants 2-4 years of bottle age, but this is pure Paso Robles magic that will have two decades of longevity.
