Tasting notes
The 2000 Carmignano Piaggia Riserva is in a very happy place, showing just how well Carmignano can mature, even from warmer vintages. It's bouquet is stunning, mixing crushed ripe strawberries and plums with rubbed sage. This is rich yet lifted by nervous acidity and fully resolved, showing ripe wildberry fruits and sweet spices giving way to balsam herbs and hints of tobacco that last well into the finish. At this point the 2000 is generous and juicy in character. I tasted this directly from the winery's library, and of note, the bottle states it's abv. at only 13%.

The 2000 Carmignano Riserva is simply the best of the appellation, rich and potent on the nose, an explosion of perfectly ripe berry fruit, minerals, and tar, and a palate of exceptional concentration, roundness, intensity, and velvet. Among the unrestrained admirers of this wine is Andrea Franchetti of Tenuta di Trinoro, not only an outstanding producer but also a connoisseur of superior winemaking. Drink: 2005-2020.
