Tasting notes
The 2016 Chardonnay Etoile Vineyard (tasted from magnum) comes from vines planted in 1998. It’s unique within the Domaine Serene portfolio, offering a more citrusy, mineral-driven style. Initial tones of matchstick give way to aromas of white peach, matcha, lime peel and green herbs on the nose. The palate is more open at this stage with concentrated lemon-and-lime flavors and vibrant acidity that lends it a shimmery feel. Electric and flinty, it hasn’t yet reached its peak and will be long lived in the cellar (especially from magnum).

Limpid yellow. Ripe, smoke-tinged melon, nectarine and clementine aromas are complemented by suggestions of honey and toasty lees. In a lush, round style, offering concentrated orchard and pit fruit nectar flavors that are refreshed by a suggestion of bitter orange pith. Vanilla and oak spice notes linger on the long, supple finish, which features smoky mineral and toasted hazelnut flourishes.
The first chardonnay planted in 1996 at Domaine Serene. This has a rich-peach and nougat nose with attractive, fleshy richness on the palate that is countered by very fine, fresh and detailed acidity. Drink now.
