Deep red. Raspberry and blackberry on the nose, along with dark chocolate, rose and musky underbrush. Gentle, fleshy and round, with sappy red and dark berry preserve flavors, silky tannins and good lift. The lucid, persistent finish features riper cherry and plum notes.

The 2006 Pinot Noir Russian River is a straightforward, chunky, fruit-driven effort displaying notes of plums, ripe cherries, chocolate, and earth. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. Paul Hobbs is one of California wine’s biggest names. Twice named Wine Personality of the Year by Robert Parker, he joined Robert Mondavi in 1977, worked at Opus One and Simi before setting up his eponymous winery in 1991.
