Pale gold. Intense smoke- and mineral-accented aromas of ripe citrus and orchard fruits carry a suave floral overtone that builds with aeration. Juicy palate-staining pear and tangerine flavors pick up a smoky lees note on the back half and show excellent clarity. Deep yet lively delivering excellent finishing thrust and a sexy lingering floral quality.

The 2012 Chardonnay Evenstad Reserve was picked October 10-18: a narrow picking window according to winemaker Erik Kramer. It is 100% whole-cluster fruit and matured in 25% new wood and less lees-stirring than in recent vintages. There is plentiful richness on the nose with notes of clear honey, white peach and subtle marzipan scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a very harmonious texture, a gentle spicy note on the entry, with dried lemon peel and lemongrass enlivening the finish while retaining admirable focus. Excellent.
