Vivid ruby-red. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh raspberry, cherry-cola, vanilla and peppery spices, plus a suave floral topnote. Juicy and focused on entry, then broader in the middle, offering appealingly sweet, supple red fruit liqueur flavors and suggestions of candied flowers and mocha. Finishes sappy and long, with repeating spiciness and smooth, slowly emerging tannins.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Cote Sud comes entirely from the Pommard clone, picked October 12 and 17, and sees 68% new wood over 16 months. It has a lucid garnet color. The nose is well defined, with a tangible mineral component: wet granite and flint infusing the redcurrant and cranberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of salinity on the entry. This is a very sappy Pinot Noir that will beg you to take another sip–tightly wound at first but fanning out nicely with a healthy dash of white pepper on the savory finish. Give this 12-18 months in bottle.
