Brilliant ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed aromas of raspberry, boysenberry and Asian spices take on a smoky mineral nuance with air. Silky and sweet on the palate, offering intense red and blue fruit flavors lifted by juicy acidity. Fine-grained tannins come in late and add shape to an extremely long, smooth, intensely fruity, mineral-tinged finish.

We started the 2012s with the special release of single vineyards. These will be released as a box set and for anyone wanting to understand the different terroirs of Côte Rôtie, I can’t recommend this enough. The single vineyards include But de Mont, Fongeant, Vialliere, Cote Bodin, Bertholon, and Champon. Starting out and from a site located in southern Côte Blonde side of the appellation, just above Maison Rouge, the 2012 Côte Rôtie But de Mont spent 18 months in all older oak. The soils here are much more fine than what's found further east/north, and Stephane commented that this site doesn't mesh well with new oak. Perfumed, fruit forward and complex, with notes of raspberry, wild strawberries, olive and exotic flowers, it's medium-bodied, silky and finesse driven on the palate, with no hard edges and fine tannin. I don't think it will be the longest lived Côte Rôtie, but it should evolve for a decade just on its balance.
