Tasting notes
The 2005 Pinot Noir Ulises Valdez Vineyard possesses a beautiful dark ruby/purple-tinged color, very good acidity, and plenty of black cherry, plum, and chocolatey fruit presented in a full-bodied, fleshy style. It will drink well for 3-4 years. Previously recommended: 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (90), 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard (95+), 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard (92+), 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Hyde Vineyard (91), 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard (94). Deep red. Lush, chocolate-covered cherry aroma, plus a spicy cracked pepper note. A bit clenched, with zesty dark berry skin flavors and firm tannins on the finish. Give this air or cellar time.
