An even, warm growing season with some rain in September followed by cool, even temperatures through harvest. Josh Bergstrom explains he continued to pull back ripeness and extraction in 2008 and the cool temperatures through harvest helped support that approach. All de-stemmed. Dark fruits and a mix of herbs with more apparent mineral lines throughout the palate. Greater sense of delicacy and depth here with nice complexity of herbs, juicy fruits, still accented by chocolate notes but with a greater range of fruits – black-cap raspberry and purple plum mid palate through finish. Nice freshness. Lightly tactile tannins with juicy acidity and lots of palate stimulation. (ECB)

The 2008 Pinot Noir De Lancellotti Vineyard (sourced from his brother-in-law’s biodynamically certified vineyard) is medium ruby red in color. Racy red cherries, raspberries, and mineral notes are followed by an elegant wine with a velvety texture, intensely flavored red fruits, uplifting acidity, and nicely concealed ripe tannin that should allow for a slow evolution of 3-4 years. It is approachable now but will be in its prime from 2013 to 2023. Josh Bergstrom continues to progress toward his goal of working entirely with estate-grown Pinot Noir. Gone are single vineyard cuvees from the Durant, Nysa, and Hyland Vineyards. He has also become increasingly focused on Chardonnay believing that Willamette Valley is capable of producing world-class wines from this varietal. www.bergstromwinery.com

Deep, vivid red. Lovely lift and purity to the aromas of wild strawberry, bitter raspberry and rose. Supple, sweet and delicious, with a juicy ripeness to the sappy red fruit, mineral and floral pastille flavors. Very suavely integrated acidity gives this wine a weightless feeling but it also packs a serious punch. Finishes with sweet tannins and outstanding mineral lift.
