Score 92+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2004

Good medium red. Highly nuanced, perfumed nose combines raspberry, rose petal, licorice, tree bark, bitter chocolate and smoky oak. Sappy, chewy and dense but still a bit youthfully backward in the middle. Impressively tactile wine, with a distinctly saline aspect and a restrained sweetness. Best today on the back end, which is ripely tannic, subtle and very long, throwing off notes of raspberry, minerals and Thai basil.
