Score 93/100 · Drink 2005-2012, Robert Parker, Jun 2005

The estate’s flagship wine, the 2002 Vall Llach, is a blend of 50% old vine Carignan, 35% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. A deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by lovely aromas of crushed blueberries, minerals, high class smoky oak, and acacia flowers. It possesses medium body, wonderful sweetness, beautiful fruit, and nicely integrated acidity and tannin. Consume it over the next 5-7 years. (14. 6% alcohol; a blend of 50% old-vines carinena, 35% merlot and 15% cabernet sauvignon) Bright, deep ruby. Slightly high-toned aromas of cassis, blackberry, bitter chocolate and violet. Lush and suave on entry, then superconcentrated and penetrating in the middle, with brooding flavors of cassis, black cherry, wild strawberry, minerals and chocolate complicated by notes of tar and licorice. Finishes with tongue-dusting tannins and excellent length. Rather austere today and not yet revealing its personality. This should be long-lived but really needs at least five years to show its inherent complexity.
