While the second and third wines are well made and delicious drinking, it is at this level that the Lagrezette wines begin to get serious. The 2015 Chateau Lagrezette is a full-bodied 100% Malbec aged in 40% new French oak, boasting a voluminous nose of cedar, black cherries, blueberries and licorice. Mouthfilling and complex, it floods the palate with flavor, coating it in gentle tannins and finishing plush and remarkably elegant for a wine that exceeds 15% alcohol.

Completely closed on the nose. Broodingly dark and intense, a shot of concentrated blackcurrant sweetness and then a broad sweep of darkly savoury, beefy power. This is the very essence of Cahors Malbec. So much more savoury than Argentina! Incredibly that high alcohol is in remarkable balance – there is gentle, warming heat at the back of the throat, but it doesn’t feel like a beast. Just controlled, rocky muscular power. Tannins that feel like the ripple of muscles on a stallion. Very dry on the finish for now, but it’s young and there is enough fruit to balance that out going forward. (TC)
The classic 2015 Lagrezette is rock solid as well as a great introduction to modern wines from Cahors. Possessing a medium to full-bodied, ripe, polished, balanced style and outstanding notes of dark fruits, crushed rock, and damp earth, it will improve for another 2-3 years and last for another decade.
A strongly phenolic wine that has a wealth of grippy tannins, deep-set, chalky texture and an almost red-wine-like feel to it. Bold. Drink now.
