Picked the same day as the Vendange Tardive the 1998 Tokay Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Selection de Grains Nobles (with 176° Oechsle) finished at 12.5% alcohol plus 210 grams of residual sugar (which is twice as much as the much lighter VT.) Fermented and ages in traditional oak casks the wine offers ripe grape flavors along with raisins, vanilla and black bread, then super ripe apricots and peaches as well as sugar beet syrup on the hugely concentrated yet pure nose. This leads to a nobly sweet, round, almost smooth and velvety palate, which seems to be pure fruit structured by a ripe acidity, nice tannins and a piquant finish. Super well balanced. Still young but enjoyable. Drink over the next 30+ years.
