The 2010 Proprietary Red Claret is a blend of equal parts Napa and Sonoma fruit from the estate vineyards that straddle those county lines. Composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Cabernet Franc, this is an elegant, but powerful, finesse-styled wine offering good acidity, ripe tannin, lots of blue, red and black fruits and forest floor, and a notion of minerality. This medium-bodied wine has good acidity and should continue to drink well for another two decades. This estate, situated high on Diamond Mountain, straddling the Napa and Sonoma county lines, is making a bevy of interesting and potentially long-lived wines. Tel. (707) 942-0707

(an 83/17 blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc): Good bright ruby. Slightly wild aromas of cassis, chocolate, mocha, cedar and leather. Sweet, pliant and suave, with dark berry and graphite flavors offering considerable early appeal. Broad, ripe but tame tannins spread out nicely to saturate the palate on the long aftertaste. Very nicely balanced wine.
The 2010 Claret explodes from the glass with a head spinning mélange of dark plums, cherries, mocha, incense and grilled herbs. This voluptuous, full-bodied wine is simply loaded with personality. Layers of blue and black fruits, scorched earth and melted road tar flow through to the huge, powerful finish. With time in the glass, the Claret turns increasingly polished and refined. Constant's Claret is a blend of fruit from Napa Valley and Sonoma.
