Score 92/100 · Drink 2006-2014, Pierre Rovani, Oct 2002

Botrytis dusted hazelnuts make up the aromatic profile of the 2000 Riesling Clos Hauserer. According to Olivier Humbrecht, this wine contains the most acidity of all his 2000s. Citrus fruits are interspersed with minerals in its expansive, medium-bodied character. Exhibiting a lively, highly-focused personality, it is also concentrated, deep, and well-extracted. Projected maturity: 2006-2014. Olivier Humbrecht describes 2000 as "a year of excellent ripeness where the key to success was sorting out the bad rot prior to harvesting." To accomplish this, Humbrecht sent out teams to go through every parcel, dropping whatever bunches had been infected with sour rot. Domaine Zind-Humbrecht's harvest lasted 6 weeks, with one-fourth being accomplished between September 19 and October 5th, and the remaining three-fourths picked by October 31st. Very reticent, steely, lime-scented nose. Juicy, dense and moderately ripe, with floral and minty notes. A flavor of dusty stone accentuates this wine dryness (7 g/l r.s.). Finishes with very good length and verve. I will reserve comment on the '99 Riesling Turckheim, which was still fermenting.
