The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has an attractive lanolin- and beeswax-tinged bouquet, and an underlying mineral seam that becomes more prominent with aeration. The palate is well balanced, with a harmonious, lightly spiced orange pith and white peach entry, and then it holds on to a fine bead of acidity that imparts tension and race toward the finish, though it loses some of that initial nerve with aeration in the glass. Lightly but not exaggeratedly smoky on the nose. An explosion of lemony fruit on the palate. Just the slightest hint of bitterness on the end – not something I've come across from J-M Boillot before. Bright and vibrant fruit. A charmer overall but not one of his absolute stars. (JR)
