Score 86/100 · Robert Parker, Oct 1993

The 1987s do not have the weight, richness, and multi-dimensional character of the 1984s, 1985s, and 1986s. But do not expect them to gather much dust on retailers' shelves. The 1987 Bonny's Vineyard is a controversial wine. The almost pickle barrel smell in the nose will be as much loved as it is detested. The wine exhibits huge amounts of fruit and depth. It could potentially turn out to be an outstanding wine, but the vegetal qualities in the nose have kept my rating conservative. I must say in defense, that that character, often present in other Bonny Vineyard's Cabernets in their youth, does age into a sweet, almost cedary component with cellaring. If it does that in the 1987, that wine will merit a much higher score.
