Healthy medium red. Aromatic nose is dominated by minerals and rose petal. Suave, juicy and light on its feet, displaying a sexy touch of sweetness to its cherry and menthol flavors. Quite refined and detailed if a bit cool and medicinal, even youthfully austere. Finishes with excellent energy and a ripe, suave dusting of tannins. Not a powerhouse but built to age.

The 2013 Clos de Vougeot is the first wine Giroud has made from this site since 2008. Unfortunately, readers will have to fight over the one measly barrel in the cellar. Layered and exceptionally finessed - especially for Clos Vougeot - the 2013 is superb today. The flavors are bright and beautifully focused throughout, but it is the wine's texture that is especially of note.
The 2013 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, from the upper left part of the clos, has a much more backward, sultry nose compared to David Croix's other Grand Crus, touches of wild heather infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannins, quite compact at the moment, but there is appreciable density toward the masculine finish. Give this three or four years in bottle.
