Tasting notes
Vivid purple. Deep-pitched aromas of spice-tinged dark fruit liqueur, incense, vanilla, violet and smoked meat, along with olive paste and cola nuances. Fleshy and broad in the mouth, offering deeply concentrated black and blue fruit preserve, mocha, candied licorice and violet pastille flavors that are brightened by a subtle mineral flourish. Supple and broad on the long, floral-dominated finish, which is shaped by smooth, steadily building tannins. There's a decadent quality to this wine that might not be to everyone's taste, but it would pair fabulously with braised lamb or venison dishes.

This terrific site near Los Alamos has produced a brilliant 2016 Syrah White Hawk. Killer notes of blackberries, new leather, white pepper, dry-aged beef, and spice give way to a powerful, full-bodied red that has ultra-fine tannins, a layered, pure style, and a great finish. It's up with some of the finest wines I've tasted from Russell From. Don't miss it.
