A blend of 80% Mourvèdre and the rest an assortment of varieties, the 2016 Two Acres sports a deeper ruby/purple-tinged color as well as a great nose of blackberry fruits, peppery herbs, earth, and hints of crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, concentrated, and impeccably balanced, it's another wine from Mike that has both power and elegance. Winemakers Mike Officer and Jay Maddox have hit pay dirt with these latest 2016s and across the board, they’re the finest set of releases I’ve tasted from this estate. While Mike’s wines are always deeply colored and powerful, the more elegant, balanced style of the 2016 vintage is front and center and these 2016s just glide over the palate, with perfectly integrated fruit, tannin, and acidity. In addition, most are approachable today given their purity of fruit, yet they’re going to evolve beautifully on their balance. Hats off to the team here and readers should not miss these wines!

A blend of 80% Mourvèdre with 20% other mixed black varieties, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Two Acres gives up subtle earth and tar aromas with hints of smoked meats and chargrill over a core of fresh blackberries and black plums. Full-bodied, taut and muscular, it has a solid frame of chewy tannins and great freshness, finishing long and earthy. 191 cases were made.

The 2016 Two Acres, Carlisle's Mourvèdre-based wine, is a rich, juicy red to drink over the next handful of years. Powerful and deep, if a touch rough around the edges, the 2016 packs a good bit of punch. The tannins are a bit forbidding, while the Two Acres doesn't quite have the pedigree of the very best wines in this range.
