2020 Linne Calodo Problem Child

The 2020 Problem Child is more Zinfandel-dominated and was brought up in a mix of new and neutral American oak. Perfumed red fruits, cigar tobacco, sandalwood, and dried flower notes are followed by a medium to full-bodied, round, supple, seamless 2020. The tannins here are nicely integrated, and the wine has plenty to love. The blend is 79% Zinfandel, 14% Syrah, and 7% Carignan, brought up in a mix of new and neutral American oak. I was only able to taste a few of Matt Trevisan’s Linne Calodo releases, but these continue to be terrific wines that are overflowing with character. The wines are almost always blends and focus either on Rhône varieties or Zinfandel-based blends. I loved both 2019s I was able to taste, and the 2020s showed well, although the 2020 Nemesis seemed to have some influence in the aromatics, so it’s one to watch, and I would drink that bottle in its youth.

Opaque magenta. Spice-accented black and blue fruit scents, along with building floral, vanilla, cola and exotic spice nuances. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering intense blueberry, cassis, kirsch and candied lavender flavors and a jolt of cracked pepper that adds spicy cut. Finishes very long and smooth, with the blue fruit and floral notes repeating. Raised in a combination of new and neutral American oak barrels.
