Tasting notes
Always one of the more distinguished wines in the range, the 2017 Fuego y Mar is a knock-out. Dark and powerful in the glass, the Fuego y Mar also has terrific freshness to play off its more overt leanings. Red cherry, red plum, pomegranate and wild flowers all build as this striking, multi-dimensional Syrah shows all its got. Fuego y Mar emerges from the Valdez family's Silver Eagle vineyard.

The 2017 Syrah Fuego Y Mar comes from the Silver Eagle Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. Reminiscent of a great Cornas with its crushed violets, smoked game, black olives, pepper, and meaty dark fruit, it’s full-bodied, concentrated yet as the same time elegant and seamless. It’s still tight and restrained on the palate, so give bottles 2-3 years.
The 2017 Syrah Fuego y Mar comes from the Silver Eagle vineyard, farmed by the Ulises Valdez family. It is made of 100% Syrah aged 18 months in 50% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it is a little broody to begin, soon revealing a fragrant perfume of chocolate-covered cherries, black forest cake and baked plums with nuances of Sichuan pepper, lilacs and dried sage. Full-bodied, it has very fine-grained, polished tannins and beautiful layers, finishing long and perfumed. Only 80 cases were made.
