Tasting notes
Picked on November 2, the 1992 Riesling Clos Saint-Urbain Rangen de Thann displays an intense golden color and a pure and concentrated yet hopefully (or possibly) not perfectly clear nose that is reminiscent of stewed stone fruits and moldy phenolics. Full-bodied, lean and fresh on the palate, this is a straight and mineral, concentrated and intense yet on the finish pretty astringent or at least thrifty Riesling that I tasted from two infected bottles. Thus, no rating. 12.2% alcohol with 4.5 grams per liter of residual sugar. Tasted as part of the large Rangen vertical in Wachenheim, Pfalz, in November 2023.
