The high level of harsh tannin in the 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap dominates what appears to be good but uninspiring levels of ripe curranty fruit intermixed with spicy, toasty oak. The wine is medium-bodied and elegant, but astringent and potentially austere. Perhaps more bottle age will add flesh to this wine, but I am suspicious. (Tasted in barrel.) Tel. (800) 486-0503

Good dark red. Cassis, medicinal cherry and a whiff of smoked bacon on the nose. Fairly intensely flavored redcurrant and strawberry fruit, but a bit green, with elevated acidity. The finish seems rather dry.
