Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2000-2005, Robert Parker, Dec 2000

The impressive, dense ruby-colored 1999 Pinot Noir Carneros (4,000 cases produced) offers aromas of black cherries, smoke, earth, and toast. This round wine is generously constituted, with enough acidity to provide definition as well as soft tannin. It should be delicious when released, and evolve nicely for 4-5 years. Good deep red. Sappy aromas of roasted redcurrant and cherry, complicated by suggestions of game and smoky oak. Supple, sweet and mouthfilling, but with a bit less aromatic complexity in the mouth (and a slightly stronger impression of alcohol) than the '98 bottling. Youthfully aggressive on the back end, but the tannins are ripe.
