Score 95/100 · Drink 2025-2038, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2022

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravel Series Secret Garden shows all the finesse and silkiness that is typical of this site. Dark cherry, plum, cinnamon and rose petal are all amplified nicely. In 2018, the differences between the two MBar Cabernet (Eric Bovet and Secret Garden) are relatively minor compared to the 2019s.

Another beautiful wine in the lineup, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Secret Garden offers up a rich, decadent nose of spiced dark fruits, chocolate, graphite, and roasted herbs and tobacco. Full-bodied, it has building richness and polished tannins, all making for an impossible to resist Cabernet that will evolve for 20 years or so.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravel Series Secret Garden is an incredibly beautiful wine, especially considering the vines are less than ten years old. Bright red cherry, plum, new leather, mocha and spice confer energy to this beautifully layered, expressive Cabernet. The Secret Garden is sourced from Mbar Ranch, which lies on Oakville's southern border. It is a magical site. The 2018 leans a bit towards the more delicate side of things, a combination of the vintage and the age of these vines.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravel Series Secret Garden is rich, sumptuous and exotically beautiful. A wine of stunning concentration and viscosity, the 2018 possesses off-the-charts intensity, stunning inner perfume and mind-blowing beauty. Dense and generous, with real vertical intensity, the 2018 has it all.
